Revelation

God has things to share.  Be ready to receive.

What is revelation?  Revelation is something that is revealed.  It could come as a vision or a word of exhortation.  The dictionary defines it as, a surprising and previously unknown fact, especially one that is made known in a dramatic way.

Habakkuk is receiving his answer from the Lord.  He says to him, “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.  For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.  Though it lingers, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”  (Habakkuk 2: 23)

Here’s what to do when we receive revelation:

  • Write it down.
  • Await a time for it to be released.
  • God has an appointed and anointed time.
  • Be patient, even though it seems like it’s never coming to pass.
  • Delay is not denial.

God has things to share.  Be ready to receive.  Keep asking Him to reveal Himself as He unfolds His answers.

Habakkuk was to share with Babylon as he foresees its fall.  He declares, “For you have shed man’s blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.”  (Habakkuk 2: 9)

He is seeing their punishment, “The cup of the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you and disgrace will cover your glory.”  (Habakkuk 2: 16)

Once again, the Lord is saying, “Those who have shed man’s blood; you have destroyed.  Woe to you!”  Then he addresses their idolatry.  Of what value is an idol since a man has carved it?

Evil shall not prevail, the Lord’s Word will.  Paul was afraid that the church, in their pure, sincere devotion to Christ, would be led astray.  It was being divided and influenced by false teachers.

To prove his love for them he reminds them of his sufferings.  He tells them, “Five times I received from the Jews forty lashes, minus one.  Three times beaten with rods, stoned and been in much danger.”  “If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.  The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows that I am not lying.”

The Destruction of Jerusalem Comes  The Babylonian army came through the wall around Jerusalem.  They killed the king of Judah Zedekiah and his sons before his own eyes.  They broke up the bronze pillars, the movable stands that were in the temple of the Lord and they carried the bronze away to Babylon.  All the items that Solomon had made were destroyed or stolen.

This next line hit me within my spirit, really hard,  I could feel the intensity of what happened.  Oh, what a sad day that was!

Judah went into captivity, away from her land.”  (2 Kings 25: 21)

As I looked down in the text note it said, “Exile was the most dire of the covenant curses.”

The people were in captivity, under Babylonian rule and the advice they were given was, “Settle down in the land and serve the king in Babylon, and it will go well with you.”  (2 Kings 25: 24)   Giving up my belief and surrendering to a false god?  That’s what they had to do.

“Ishmael son of Nethaniah, who was of royal blood, came with ten men and assassinated the officer and the men of Judah and the Babylonians who were with him at Mizpah.  All the people who were left fled to Egypt for fear of the Babylonians.”  (2 Kings 25: 25-26)

God made a way!  Jehoiachin, king of Judah, was released from Babylonian rule, no longer a prisoner.  He spoke kindly to him and gave Jehoiachin a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.  It then says this, “Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table.”  (2 Kings 25: 29)

The captivity did not destroy the people of Israel or the line of David.  God’s promise of David’s house remains.

There is a place for God’s children to sit at the king’s table and eat regularly. That place is called heaven.

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.  I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a Bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”  (Revelation 21: 1-2)

It’s all in the book of Revelation which God gave to John.
