Rescued

He pulls out all the stops. He is patient and waits us out. We are scared to trust Him at first because we do not know Him. Slowly but surely, we grow to trust Him because time and time again He proves He will come through and protect us.

This past week, we rescued a kitten from the storm drain outside of our house. It took a lot of tuna and patience to convince the little tyke to come out. Yesterday, she finally came out to eat then quickly ran back under the cover where she felt safe. For some reason, I just could not give up on this little cutie. I reached out on social media to get suggestions on how to rescue this creature. I was nervous that she would get hit by a car or starve to death.

We were finally able to trap her and bring her inside where she was safe. I took her to the vet for vaccines and to get a clean bill of health. I had to pay a pretty chunk of change, but it was worth it. As little and insignificant as this kitten seems, she meant something to me.

This got me thinking about our Lord and Savior. He pulls out all the stops. He is patient and waits us out. We are scared to trust Him at first because we do not know Him. After all, the world can be an awful place, and it is rough out there. Jesus came to save us, protect us. We hide in our little secure place even though it is not necessarily a safe place. We feel safe there because that is what we are used to. But when He rescued us, He paid a huge price for us to be safe. For us to be His. Slowly but surely, we grow to trust Him because time and time again He proves He will come through and protect us. Just like a kitten that we feed and provide a comfortable environment for, He feeds us spiritually and allows us to come to Him. Regardless of how much we hiss, spit, and fight Him, He still loves us and still wants the very best for us.

Isaiah 41:10 says, “’Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.  I will hold you up with my victorious right hand’” (NLT).

I can honestly tell you I know what it is like to step out in faith while being afraid. I have been in circumstances where I was terrified, but God protected me. I have had my whole world collapsing in on me, and He came by and swooped me up and put me in a safe place.  I can’t tell you why some people honestly serve and trust Him and something bad happens anyway, but we can rest assured that He always has our best interest at heart. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (NIV). Just like this sweet baby furball and me. I have nothing but love for her and want only the very best for her for the rest of her life.

We need to think about our spiritual being and not just our physical being. Faith can be a scary thing, but in each circumstance that you go through where you have no choice but to have faith or fall apart, your faith will grow stronger when you see the Lord swoop in and save the day.
