Rescue Us

Why do we bring unnecessary pain and suffering on ourselves by not listening or trusting our God?

Posted on

Are you needing rescued or helped from an enemy?  Perhaps you are trapped in a web of lies or in a destruction pattern?  Our God is able to reach down and pull you up and out.

The Psalmist cried, “Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men; protect me from violence, who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.”  (Psalm 140: 1-2)

We all know those types of folks who are stirring up war, daily.

  • Trouble makers are under the control of this evil.

Here’s what else they do.  “They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips.”  (Psalm 140: 3)

  • Pay attention to what comes out of people’s mouths.

Rely On His Strength

He’s got you!  Hold on to Him!

  • Recognize Him as your God.  O Lord, I say to you, you are my God, hear O Lord, my cry for mercy.”  (Psalm 140: 6)
  • Recognize Him as your Deliver. O Sovereign Lord, my strong Deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle.”  (Psalm 140: 7)
  • Recognize Him as your Judge. “I know that the Lord secures justice and upholds the cause of the needy.”  (Psalm 140: 12)

We Must Listen

Jeremiah tried to tell the people to not go back to Egypt.  However, “They entered Egypt in disobedience to the Lord.”  (Jeremiah 43: 7)

Egypt was a land of idolatry.  God was angry with his people for turning back to idol worship.  “They provoked Him to anger by burning incense and by worshiping other gods that neither they nor you and your fathers ever known.”  (Jeremiah 44: 3)

“People are people,” we often say.  Can you even fathom how God feels when He delights in blessing His children and he sees rebellion?   He still desires to rescue us from the hand of the enemy and destruction, but men refuse to listen.

Why are we so stupid not to rely on our good, good Father?  Why do we bring unnecessary pain and suffering on ourselves by not listening or trusting our God?

Truthfulness Or Falsehood

Man continues to seek false teachers, false worship, bringing destruction instead of seeking truth which brings deliverance.  The Bible warns us about false teachers.  Here’s what we can learn so we can stay away from distorted truth.  They are:

  • Greedy (2 Peter 2: 3)
  • Corrupt  (2 Peter 2: 10)
  • Bold (2 Peter 2: 10)
  • Arrogant (2 Peter 2: 10)
  • Slanderous (2 Peter 2: 11)
  • Accusatory (2 Peter 2: 11)
  • Blasphemers (2 Peter 2: 12)
  • Brutal beasts (2 Peter 2: 12)
  • Seduce the unstable (2 Peter 2: 14)
  • Backsliders (2 Peter 2: 15)

These are just a few qualities of a man without the Truth of God in him.  Their behavior may be a little more subtle, but their fruit will be released in their behavior.  Remember a person’s character is revealed by actions.  Whatever spews forth is what’s inside!

Here’s what Peter shares, “These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm.”  (2 Peter 2: 17)

  • Their words will not bring refreshment.
  • Their lives are stormy.
  • They feed off of drama.

These false teachers are in the churches and everywhere else.  They profess to know Jesus, but they have another agenda.  God says, “It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.”  (2 Peter 2: 21)

  • It is Truth that sets us free.
