Progressive Church Claims Bible Isn’t the Word of God

If you seek the truth, you won’t get it from Progressive Christianity but from God’s word.

A progressive Nashville church has drawn the ire of the internet after sharing a message on social media declaring the Bible isn’t the Word of God, inerrant or infallible.

This was something I felt strongly about and also believe is important that it’s addressed. What we’re seeing nowadays is the movement away from scriptural truth as doctrines of demons is embraced.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. (1 Timothy 4:1)

News like this shouldn’t surprise us as we’re in the last days, but this must be called attention to and clearly marked as false. We must make it clear that Progressive “Christianity” is no Christianity at all. Any so-called branch, sect, or variation of Christianity that rejects the bible as authoritative and as the inspired inerrant word of God, while also undermining many other core doctrines of the faith, is FALSE.

Plain and simple. If you seek the truth, you won’t get it from Progressive Christianity but from God’s word. You won’t get it from these so-called “Christians”, “pastors”, and “churches” that malign it all the while preaching a false gospel that has zero power to save anyone.

It’s clearly expressed to us in the bible that all of scripture is from the inspiration of God and to say otherwise is to promote a lie, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

This is also confirmed to us in 2 Peter 1:21 as we see that “men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit”. It is not for us to pick and choose what we want from the bible. We either take it or leave it, there is no middle ground.

For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

Of course, as believers, we would want nothing more than for all men and women to believe in the gospel, but we also know that not everyone will. But just because someone may not believe it doesn’t mean we twist or ignore what’s clearly written in the pages of scripture.

With all of this being said, I also want to encourage us to pray for this pastor, that he may come to the knowledge of the truth and truly see what the bible is and the life-changing impact it’s had on many including ourselves.

Nashville church says Bible isn’t the Word of God, then draws ire

From The Christian Post: Two Sundays ago, GracePointe Church, led by Pastor Josh Scott, shared a recap of the day’s message on Facebook, discussing the Bible and the question: “What Is Progressive Christianity?”

“As Progressive Christians, we’re open to the tensions and inconsistencies in the Bible. We know that it can’t live up to impossible, modern standards. We strive to more clearly articulate what Scripture is and isn’t,” the church noted before stating what the Bible is and isn’t.

“The Bible,” the church said, “isn’t: the Word of God, self-interpreting, a science book, an answer/rule book, inerrant or infallible.” Rather, it is: “a product of community, a library of texts, multi-vocal, a human response to God, living and dynamic.”

As of Wednesday evening, the post had attracted more than 1,200 emoji reactions along with 1,800 comments. Of the 1,200 emojis, more than half were angry faces, just over 300 were laughing emojis while more than 100 were sad faces. Just 157 reactions approved of the post.

When asked about the reactions to his sermon and if he felt it was a good conversation to start online, Scott, who grew up Southern Baptist, told The Christian Post in an interview that he believes it is a necessary one to have.

“You know, my intent really was, this is a conversation that we’re having in our community. So yeah, I do think it’s a good conversation and I think it’s a conversation that needs to happen within that sort of the broader Christian culture,” he said.

“I think we definitely have a tendency to treat the Bible almost as an idol. And in doing so, we fail, I think, to see the real call, which is never for us just to read something but always for us to read it, wrestle with it and then embody the rest of it the way we live our lives in the world,” he explained.

“If there are any sort of conversations that are off-limits in the Christian tradition then it probably just means we are afraid of them. We’re probably afraid to engage them because we are afraid of being labeled heretics, we’re afraid of people saying hateful things. In reality, these are important conversations. So yeah, I feel like it’s something that needs to be talked about.” Read More

“Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.” (John 13:19)

For the believer in Christ, these are amazing times we’re living in as we see the world stage being set up just as the bible says it will in the last days preceding Christ’s return. For us, it’s a time of hope as our redemption draws near, but for those yet saved, they lack the same hope and instead may find themselves living in fear as to what tomorrow may bring.

In Revelation 19:10 we’re told that the essence of bible prophecy is Jesus, “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” My purpose in writing these articles in relation to bible prophecy is to express this truth to ultimately point you to Christ. Bible prophecy is not meant to scare but to prepare. These things were revealed to us so that we have confidence in God’s word and believe in Jesus (John 13:19).

If you have not placed your faith in Jesus’ finished work on the cross, I implore you to do so today (2 Corinthians 6:2)! The bible makes it clear that our life is like a vapor so tomorrow isn’t guaranteed for anyone (James 4:13-14). Because of our sinful and fallen state (Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23) there’s nothing we can do of our own efforts to reach God or somehow work our way to heaven (Isaiah 64:6).

God instead has provided a way to him through Christ who is the only way to be saved (John 14:6). Although God offers humanity the gift of eternal life through the shed blood of his son, it’s our choice to either reject this gift and pay for the penalty of our sin ourselves or accept it by placing our trust in the one who’s already paid it all in full (Acts 16:30-31, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9). Make sure you’ve made the right decision about Jesus today! It will be the most important decision of your life, for eternal life.
