Self-justification is the go-to response when corrected for people who have narcissistic tendencies.  Since they cannot metabolize shame relationally and their need to feel special is driving them, deflection is key.  Self-justification can come in many forms, everything from, “You’ll never understand in a million years!” to, “How dare you question me!” to ” God told me to do this.”
