Where does your mind go when you see the image of a ring life preserver? The ring keeps someone from drowning, doesn’t it? This keeps the one afloat so they don’t use up their energy treading water. This ring is thrown not by itself, but with a line attached to it, to assist the one to be pulled to safety.
In the Lord’s prayer, as we continue, we read this next verse, “Rescue us every time we face tribulation and set us free from evil. For you are the King who rules with power and glory forever.” (Matthew 6:13)
To be rescued, we must grab the lifeline.
If we grab hold of what God the Father offers us, in our temptation or trial, we shall be delivered from going down.
Jesus is our lifeline that continually rescues and restores.
If we are continually being tempted and drawn into a particular sin, there is a remedy. Flee temptation! Run from it and don’t position yourself to be near it. There is a choice we have to make.
Let this help: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4: 7)
The choice we have to make first is submission to God.
The Holy Spirit will help us to submit and surrender. We are told simply and very clearly, “Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5: 22)
I have highlighted this truth so it will be highlighted in our daily walk and be part of our daily bread.
“For you are the King who rules with power and glory forever.” Amen. (Matthew 6: 13b)
Let’s turn to our King who rules with His power and pray. For as we pray remember, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” (James 5: 16)
Great power and glory are from Him.
