As I look at this crown, I remember the words of Thomas as he declared Jesus as, “My Lord and My God.” It took him a while to get to that point. He had walked with Jesus as a disciple, yet, could not believe that the crown of thorns has now been turned into a victor’s crown. Believing in the resurrection was too far-fetched for his logical mind.
Did Jesus condemn him? No! He met Thomas right where he was in his unbelief and doubt. He showed him His nail-scarred hands and wounds that had been healed. Jesus is a master of healing our wounds.
All the suffering, He endured, the pain of a thorned crown jammed into his skull, is now a crown of victory, a King’s crown.
David in Psalm 145 is exalting a hymn to the Lord as His mighty King. We can all learn from his words as he says, “Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.” (Psalm 145: 2)
- Make praise part of your daily routine.
David doesn’t stop there, he continues to declare, “His greatness no one can fathom.” (Psalm 145: 3)
If we want to be lifted out of despair, we have to learn to:
- Focus on His greatness.
As kingdom-minded believers, we choose what we focus on.
“One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts.” (Psalm 145: 4)
- There’s a legacy to be left as we share of God’s mighty acts.
How do we stay so praiseworthy when life crashes down all around us and on us? It’s all in the spoken word:
“Speak of the glorious splendor His your majesty, I will meditate on your wonderful works.” (Psalm 145: 5)
What are we meditating on? You’ve heard it said,
Whatever we put our attention to, we give life to.
If we focus on what bad has happened, we make it stay alive. Aren’t the negative things in our life those things we should not meditate and focus on? Believe me, the enemy wants us stuck there! If he can stifle us, he will!
This is why praise and worship are so important and pivotal in our lives.
It brings glory to the one who is worthy of praise, and it set us free from those things that weigh us down.
Kingdom-minded followers must learn to meditate on the things that will empower us.
Let’s make some new choices!
- Choose to “Tell of the power of your awesome works, and proclaim your great deeds.” (Psalm 145: 6)
- Choose to “Celebrate His abundant goodness and joyfully sing.” (Psalm 145: 7)
- Choose to remember, “The Lord is gracious and compassionate slow to anger and rich in love.” (Psalm 145: 8)
Kingdom-minded saints tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might.
Why? “So that all men may know of His mighty acts and the glorious splendor of His kingdom. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and His dominion endures through all generations.” (Psalm 145: 12-13)
Not only this, “He is faithful to all His promises, and loving toward all He has made.” (Psalm 145: 36)
Yet, it doesn’t stop there! “He upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.” (Psalm 145: 14) Sometimes, we just need to change our posture!
Yay God! If you have fallen away, He still is right here to uphold you. Just reach out and up! He, “Opens His hand and satisfies the desires of every living thing.” (Psalm 145: 16)
He hears every cry and saves us! He knows what went wrong and why it went wrong. He knows of the mistreatment, the accusations, the shame, and the rejection. How can we reject His loving kindness, mercy, and everlasting love?
“My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.” (Psalm 145: 21)
KINGDOM PRINCIPLE: Let your mouth speak in praise and your soul will join you. Every part of you will join in and follow. There is power in the spoken word of praise, it becomes our weapon.
