Have you ever wondered where the Star of David originated from? In Hebrew, it is called the Magen David (מָגֵן דָּוִד), which means the “shield of David.” The Star of David is one of the symbols most commonly associated with the Jewish people. This symbol is on their flag over the land of Israel, God’s chosen people.
The name Messiah is the promised deliverer of the Jewish nation. The Hebrew word Mashiach, translated to English as Messiah, means “the anointed one with oil.”
Yes, Jesus is the Chosen One, the Anointed One, the Sent One, the only hope of salvation for a world that is plagued with sin. Jesus has come to bring salvation and deliverance to all those who will receive Him.
In the Old Testament Daniel spoke forth this prophecy: “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times.” Daniel 9: 25
One commentary mentioned this: “The fact that all of the Old Testament prophecy concerning the Messiah and His first coming has come true with such detail brings clarity to the issue of what is going to happen in the future. For there are prophecies concerning the Messiah that still await fulfillment.
The biggest lesson for us to learn here is that God keeps His promises and just as the prophecies concerning the coming Messiah have been fulfilled in Christ Jesus’ first coming, so the rest of the messianic prophecies will be fulfilled in the second coming.”
The commentary went on to say, “Christ Himself brought our attention to that dual coming when He read from a prophecy found in Isaiah 61:1-2 (Recorded in Luke 4:18-19). “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn” (Isaiah 61:1-2).”
What was the response after Jesus rolled up the scroll and said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4: 21 They were ok with his reading until he mentioned that God sent Him to the Gentiles because they refused to accept Him.
Then, “All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up and drove Him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff. But He walked right through the crowd and went on His way.” Luke 4: 28-30
The plan of God cannot be thwarted. When He was taken up to heaven in a cloud while the disciples watched Him, two men (apparently angels) said, “This same Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same manner as you have watched Him go into heaven.? Acts 1: 11
“This same Jesus,” is a glorious phrase. It reminds us that Jesus ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father is the same Jesus of the Gospels. But it doesn’t stop there!
He will come back in the same manner that He left.
Here’s that glorious manner that one commentary so beautifully displayed:
- He left physically and will so come in like manner.
- · He left visibly and will so come in like manner.
- · He left from the Mount of Olives and will so come in like manner.
- · He left in the presence of His disciples and will so come in like manner.
- · He left blessing His church and will so come in like manner.
