Kingdom Kids: The Dog Ate My Homework

Mom pulled out her Bible and read, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

I have been feeling anxious quite often with online school, and I bet you have too. For example, there was a quiz I had to take, but the website wasn’t letting me. I told my teacher in chat.  She didn’t respond, but the problem was taken care of. This devotion will hopefully give you some encouragement. Let’s begin:

“Mom!” June called from the kitchen. Bailey, the puppy, came running in as Mom closed the door.

“Ya?” said Mom.

June was too busy petting Bailey to hear. Mom had to tap her shoulder. “Yes?” Mom asked again.

“Where did you put my homework?” June asked.

Mom pulled Bailey away by her collar. “On the shelf,” she answered.

June got up and got her homework. As she just set it on the table, her little sister Emily ran in crying.  She was only 3 ½ but she was very smart. “Jwune!” she said while sobbing.

June looked at her. “Ya?” she said.

“I got you teddy bwear stuckies.” she cried even more.

“OH NO! SHOW ME!” June shouted, and they both ran upstairs.

A while later June came back and saw Bailey eating her homework! “Bailey!” June shouted.

She tried to get it out of Bailey’s mouth, but the dog did not let go. In fact, she tugged the other way. She thought it was a game! Of course, it ripped.

“No!” June shouted. She began to cry.

Mom raced in. “What’s going on?”

“M-my thing rip-p-ed!” she said as she pointed at Bailey, who chewed on the ruins of her homework. “My teacher is going to be so mad.” She kept crying.

Mom looked at her. “Don’t be anxious, June, Philippians 4:6 says something wonderful. Let me read it.”

Mom pulled out her Bible and read, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

June looked up. “So I should tell God? And He will help me get through?”

Mom nodded. “He is always there for you, and I am too. I will call your teacher. You don’t need to work anymore today. I think you learned enough for today.
