Keep It Simple

Don’t let any teaching or theology into your life that will lead you away from the simple truths in the Bible.

Over the last few weeks, the Lord has been speaking to me about the importance of keeping it simple. Our spiritual foundation is so important. Many are led astray when they try to make the latest, greatest teachings or prophetic words their foundation. Jesus Christ and the Word of God should be our foundation. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus talks about the importance of us making His words the foundation we build upon. He also warns that those who do not have that firm foundation are like someone building a house on sand.

In this season, we must have more discernment than ever before. Many go so deep in their theology and teaching that they overlook the basics of walking with God. 1 Corinthians 8:1 says, “…Knowledge puffs up but love edifies.” Our love and relationship with God should be our main priority and focus. Jesus modeled this for us with His life. Mark 1:35 says, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Jesus valued time spent with His Father and made it the foundation for His life and ministry. We should also recognize that the Holy Spirit moving and operating in our lives is more important than anything else.

I earned a degree from an accredited seminary and I do think education and study are great. However, I think keeping things simple is more important. I once asked two men to speak at one of our services. One was a polished Bible college graduate and the other was a former drug addict who had only been saved a short period of time. When the polished Bible college graduate spoke, he was well-spoken and his message was very polished. But it wasn’t anointed. However, when the new believer and former drug addict spoke everyone in the room could feel the anointing and power of God as he spoke.

Don’t let any teaching or theology into your life that will lead you away from the simple truths in the Bible. Don’t get caught up in theological debates and arguments, keep it simple. Spend time with God, get in the secret place of prayer, spend time in the Word, and make fasting a part of your lifestyle. God has an amazing destiny for each of us. Walking with Him is like a wild adventure but that does not mean it should be complicated. Keep it simple!
