Insufficient Funds

How do we break the cycle of feeling like what we have is never enough? Maybe the answer isn’t found in our paychecks; maybe the answer is found in our hearts.

“I’m never going to have enough money.” “It’s always going to be this way.” “My job is pointless because my paycheck is never enough.” Can you relate to this way of thinking? I know I can. Thoughts like these make us despise our jobs and our bank accounts. They can cause so many problems from bad moods to relationship problems and everything in between. How do we break the cycle of feeling like what we have is never enough? Maybe the answer isn’t found in our paychecks; maybe the answer is found in our hearts.

It is important to recognize that “never enough” is a feeling, but it is not the truth for anyone who calls him or herself a believer in Christ. The Bible says in Luke 6:45 (NLT), “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” In other words, if the words from our mouths are “never enough,” then it is a reflection of the beliefs in our hearts.

In order to change our thoughts and beliefs, we must familiarize ourselves with what God says is true. Knowing God’s Truth helps us fight against the belief of “never enough” by giving us an understanding of what God says about our needs. Instead of saying “I’ll never have enough,” we can begin believing His words given to us through the Bible. If we change our negative beliefs from “never enough” to “exactly enough,” we will find that our thoughts will follow as well.

As we reposition our hearts to believe the truth that God can and will meet our needs, it changes the way we think about our finances.

Remind yourself today: My God will meet all of my needs (my car repair needs, groceries, medical expenses, etc.) because He provides for me, and His wealth is great (Matt. 6:25-34 and Phil. 4:19).
