In All Things, Keep Your Eyes on Christ

Peter took the initiative to evade fear and he boldly got out of the boat in the middle of the sea to go to Jesus.

What an interesting time we are living. It is easy to be thrown off track if we tune in to the mainstream media, social media, or anything other than the solid word of God.

As I gathered my thoughts, I was reminded of the story in Matthew when the disciples were in the boat rowing out to sea in the middle of the night when they saw Jesus walking on the water.

“Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:28-33)

Peter took the initiative to evade fear and he boldly got out of the boat in the middle of the sea to go to Jesus. Not only did he bravely get out of the boat, but he also did it during a terrible storm. The lesson is so clear to us:

  1. Despite the storms in our lives, boldly seek out Jesus despite your fears.
  2. Only when Peter took his eyes off of Jesus did he begin to sink.
  3. Jesus extended His hand to Peter in his time of fear and doubt.

This is such a simple story yet filled with so many vital lessons. All week long I have heard Him clearly say to me, “Keep your eyes on Me!”

Will you also keep your eyes on the only One who can calm any storm? Will you put your trust in Him? Will you take His hand and ride out this storm with Him?
