Importance Of Directing Our Speech

Releasing and directing our words can hold a person altogether, emotionally, and physically.

Have you ever been a victim of misdirected speech?  I am sure we all have. At times, we all may be guilty of firing and misdirecting our speech.  Here’s what pleasant words produce:

“Pleasant words are a honeycomb; sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”  (Proverbs 16: 24)

If we look at a honeycomb, we see it is a perfect structure that provides bees nourishment and safety.  This is what a life of pleasant words does for us–heals and protects.  When kind and pleasant words are released, they will overflow into our life, stick, and adhere to our very soul and bring healing, all the way down to our bone structure.  Our bone structure is what holds the body together.

It’s time to direct our speech and release pleasant and healing words.  We don’t need any premature osteoporosis (weakening to our bones).  The aging process does that all on its own.  Releasing and directing our words can hold a person altogether, emotionally, and physically.

If a person’s words do all that, just think what the Words of God can do? “My son, (daughter) pay attention to what I say; listen closely to My words.  Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are LIFE to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.”  (Proverbs 4:20-22)

The word honeycomb in the original Hebrew means dripping.  It’s from the root word overflow to be gummy and sticky.  It suddenly occurred to me that joints and bones need lubrication to operate properly without pain.

Shooting off our mouth, recklessly, does more damage than we even thought was possible.  The old English children’s rhyme that stated, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me,” was definitely wrong!  Pleasant words is all the sticking I want.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”  (Proverbs 18: 21)  The man was directed and given a choice, a long time ago, which fruit trees to eat from.  It seems to me, that we still need to be directed!
