How Can We Number Our Days?

God knows the numbers of everything, even the length of our days.

What does it mean to number our days?   This was a prayer of one man of God whose name was Moses.  He asked, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”  Psalm 90: 12

If you are all about numbers, we are told, “The very hairs of your head are all numbered.” Matthew 10: 30 In God’s great wisdom, “ He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.”  Psalm 147: 4 God knows the numbers of everything, even the length of our days.

So how can we be taught to number our days if God is the giver and taker of life?

One commentary said this:  “Teach us means that this wisdom must be learned. It isn’t automatic. Most people live with little awareness that life is short, and their days should be numbered. Young people especially often think their days have no number and give little thought to what lies beyond this life. (Guzik)

Having a heart of wisdom causes us to live for eternity.  Make your life count!  (Pun intended)

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND?  Make preparation for the days ahead. Set them apart. Then, commit them to God and ask Him to appoint them for fulfilling His purposes.
