Hope When the World Closes

We’re all coming together against this, fighting for our country, taking our shot. We’re linking arms in an event and finding the gold in human kindness.

And just like that, the world closed. An Olympic year overshadowed.

My childhood dreams had me competing at the Olympics. It didn’t matter what the event was, just so I could be part of the opening ceremony, and stand tall to represent my country. To hold my head high alongside world athletes all fighting for their country and taking their shot.

I watched with a personalized focus, a hope, an urgency.

I wanted to see the wins. To cheer as the torch was carried from checkpoint to checkpoint. To root for souls whose heritage was different than mine, and yet be in awe of what another human could do.

Somehow the spinning of our different worlds collided in unity within that competition.

We’re in a new kind of Olympics, right now.

Only the higher the score the more your country has lost. And no one celebrates that.

I’m watching, eyes peeled, just the same. Yet, each new day feels defeating and broken.

I want to see the wins. To cheer as the torch is carried from healing checkpoint to healing checkpoint. To root for souls whose heritage differs from mine, and yet be in awe of what another human can do.

We’re all coming together against this, fighting for our country, taking our shot.

We’re linking arms in an event and finding the gold in human kindness.

Worlds spinning out of control, yet colliding in unity.

Because we know that a country flag means so little here. We all come from the same God. Seeing His children reach unthinkable heights is awe-inspiring no matter the flag. Seeing the together glory is the very picture of what His garden gathering would be.

My heart can’t help but think 2020 is the year.

The year you and I are welcomed into that ceremony of world joy and domination.

Only to represent His flag, rather than our own.

To stand together with the same enemy, the same hope, the same fight.

The same assurance that no matter what comes, we’ve already won because the crimson flag was waved on our behalf.

Let’s pass our healing torch of hope and havens to one another.

Let’s wave His Truth in triumph and stand on a platform that receives a medal of heartwarming humanity.

Let’s be interlinked rings of hope, today. In this fight.

Knowing unity in Him is never closed.

Be where you are, sweet friend.
Feel what you feel.
And link arms with those who can offer you hope and those who need yours.
