Honesty is the Best Policy—Especially with Ourselves

I’m genuinely thankful. But not for the right reasons.

I pray over this ministry every night. Some may not view writing as a ministry, but it is for me. I pray every night for God to give me words to share, lessons to learn, and for God to have all the glory. I thank Him for all He is doing already through just my small circle of ministry.

This particular night I was stopped at the very sentence I was praying- “God thank you for helping me with my ministry”… and there it was friends. Pride. That’s how easy pride seeps into our hearts. Did I mean what I said in a negative tone? No, not at all. I’m genuinely thankful. But not for the right reasons. I was thanking God for helping me with MY ministry… not His. I had taken a seat on my own throne so quickly. And I had to be reminded of who I am and whose I am.

It’s not necessarily the words I said that were wrong, it was the intent of my heart. So many of us walk around with pride taking over areas of our life without us being willing to admit it. Let’s just be honest with ourselves for a moment. Where in your life can you give God all the glory? Is it just one area or is it your whole life? Are you thankful for how faithful He is? Because, sweet friend, let me just be honest with you here. None of us deserve anything that God gives us or any way that God uses us. That’s all because of His grace and His love.

So let’s be honest with ourselves, let’s step down from that throne, and let’s give God the glory He deserves. Because if we don’t, we’ve been warned-

“First pride, then the crash— the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16:18‬ ‭MSG
