He’s Over The Waters

He is our treasure, even in our storms.

The disciples asked Jesus, “When will we see these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” (Luke 21: 7)  The signs they were concerned about was the prelude of the end of the age. Jesus responded:

  •  “Many will come in my name, claiming I am He…(Luke 21: 8)
  • “You will hear of wars and revolutions…(Luke 21: 9)
  • “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom.  (Luke 21: 10)

When persecution comes, stand strong.

  • By standing firm we will gain life.”  (Luke 21: 19)
  • “Stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”  (Luke 21: 28)

I asked, “What sustains us in trouble?”  “Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.  Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name, worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.”  (Psalm 29: 1-2)

The Pharisees and Scribes must have not learned how to ascribe glory to our God.  Worship puts everything into perspective when you focus on Him alone.  Pure worship brings us to that place of seeing our majestic God in His beauty.  It causes us to see that He is our treasure, even in our storms.

When storms of life come, we are promised, “The Voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.”  (Psalm 29: 3)

He will be our strength in turbulent times.  “The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.”  (Psalm 29: 11)   Strength and peace are the treasures we need!

The temple treasury, positioned boxes in the court within the temple.  A widow’s poor offering touched the heart of Jesus when He watched her drop two very small copper coins into the treasury box. Jesus saw the treasure in her heart and He pointed out, “All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”  (Luke 21: 4)

Are we giving out of our wealth or out of our poverty?  “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has not according to what he doesn’t have.”  (2 Corinthians 8: 12)

  • Being willing is the motive of true generosity, no matter how small the amount.
  • What God has placed in our hand, we must hold on to.  In a moment of weakness, Judah gave away, “Your seal, and its cord and the staff in your hand.”  (Genesis 39: 18)

Intrigued by these three words, underlined, I recalled what Jesus told us about them.

  • Our Father’s pledge to us has been given.  His seal has marked us.  “Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.”  (Ephesians 1: 13-14)

“I will fear no evil, for your rod and your staff  they comfort me.”  (Psalm 23: 4)  His staff is the support.

“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”  (Ecclesiastes 4 12)  Father, Son and Holy Spirit are entangled as one around us.

Guard this pledge and don’t let anyone take it from you, ever.  You are God’s treasured possession, His temple treasury.  He is God over the waters and over our life!

(Luke 21, Psalm 29, Genesis 38, Paraphrased & Modified)
