He Who Comforts You

I will be strong for you where you are weak and exhausted.

Over these past days, I have been feeling the Father’s heart for those who grieve. Last week, in a dream, I saw a woman sorting through the clothing of a loved one who had passed. She was making the agonizing decision between what to keep and what to part with. Each article of clothing brought a flood of memories and still held his lingering scent.

I watched as one by one people walked past her–preoccupied. Not one looked her way. No one noticed the tears she was fighting back. Then I, a stranger, approached her. Immediately, she put on the “I’m OK” face. I looked into her pain-filled eyes. “May I give you a hug?” I asked. She nodded guardedly. Yet, when my arms wrapped around her, she collapsed into them. With gut-wrenching sobs, she clung to me soaking my shoulder with her tears.

My heart has been deeply moved to pray over those who are mourning. Perhaps you haven’t lost a loved one, but you have sustained loss in this past season. You are walking through the valley of the shadow of death. You are in a season of grieving what was and now isn’t any longer. Even I am sensing some of you have experienced the death of a dream or an expectation of how things would be. God’s heart is tender with compassion for you.  As I sat with our Father, He began to speak these words of comfort for you…

I’VE GOT YOU

“I see that you are trying to hold it all together and be strong. I want you to know that I’ve got you in My arms, and I’m not letting you go. I’m holding you tight to My chest. Sink in and rest. I will be strong for you where you are weak and exhausted.

I know you have questions. I can handle your ‘whys’. Only come to Me. Let Me bear your pain, your grief, and heartache. I am well acquainted with sorrow, and I’m not going to let you go through this alone. I know this loss feels like it is tearing you up inside, and your grief is more than you can bear. Lean into Me and let My healing presence do its work deep in your soul. I love you, My child. I love you.

Stay close to Me and we will come through this together. I am sending help. I know that you feel that you are drowning in grief and decisions. Each decision feels like a ton of lead weight. It is hard to get up. It is all you have to put one foot in front of the other. I see you, My child. I am sending support. You are not in this alone. I’ve got you.”

“I, even I, am He who comforts you.” -Isaiah 51:12a

WHO WILL GO FOR ME?

For those who are NOT in a season of grief, I am sensing Jesus has a message for us as well…

“Open your eyes and look up into the faces of those around you. Don’t be so caught up in your day-to-day life that you miss the divine moments I have planned out for you. Who is the one who will be My hands and feet of love today? Who will be the one to sustain the weary with a word? Lift up your eyes and look around you. There is hurting and pain everywhere. Will you be My messenger of comfort and hope today? Look and see what My Father is doing and then…do that.”

Personally, I am taking this exhortation to heart as I too have been preoccupied as I go about my day. I keep hearing in the spirit, “Look up and look around you.”

Lord, help us to notice and respond with your heart and with loving action to the hurting around us. Amen

The Sovereign LORD has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will.”-Isaiah 50:4 NLT
