He Makes Himself Known

Jesus is not merely an image or reflection of God. The Son Himself is God. He is the absolutely authentic representation of God’s being.

If you are estranged from a sibling or family member, let this story encourage you.   Joseph, chosen of God, could no longer control himself, so he makes himself known to his brothers.  He is now Pharaoh’s right-hand man. Had he forgotten that his brothers left him to die in a pit, then pulled him out and sold him?  As he sees his brothers, what emotions were cropping up?   “He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and the Pharaoh’s household heard about it.”  (Genesis 45: 2)

  • God hears our cries, always.

After he reveals his identity, Joseph’s brothers were afraid.  He asked them if his father, Jacob, was still alive. But, “His brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified of his presence.  (Genesis 45: 3)

To ease their discomfort, Joseph says, “It was not you who sent me here, but God.”  (Genesis 45: 8)

  • When we stop blaming people for the things that went wrong in our lives, a new level of trust in God has occurred.

Joseph had every right to confront his brothers and remind them of the terrible thing they did to him. However, he chooses to see that God was able to use all the pain and suffering and turn it around for good.

  • It does us not one bit of good if we stay stuck on what has happened.

Joseph asks them to “Come close to me!”  He then tells them to go get their father and their entire family and come back to live near him.

  • Jesus delights when we come close to Him.  He wants to live close, so very close in our hearts.
  • Joseph is desperately awaiting, and longing to come back into a relationship with his father.

Pharaoh hears about this family reunion and his blessing is upon it, as well, sending forth provision for all to come.

Isn’t that just like our Heavenly Father, making provision for all to come?  Yes, come as you are. The Father’s arms are always open for Him to receive you into His house.  There are no restrictions, just come!

As soon as Jacob (now Israel) heard that Joseph was alive, “The spirit of their father Jacob revived.”  (Genesis 45: 27)

  • The father’s heart was crushed with the loss of his son.
  • Restoration of family coming back together revives our spirits.
  • God’s love is never-ending and immeasurable.

Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.”  (Psalm 36: 5)

  • God’s love reaches up high and reaches down low to those who are even unlovable.  He forgives and restores.  He places our enemies under our feet.

The love of Jesus rises above all else.  “In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.  (Hebrews 1: 10)

“Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”  (Hebrews 1: 13)

  • Joseph’s relationship was restored with his father.

Scripture says, “I will be His father, and He will be my Son.”  (Hebrew 1: 5)

Jesus is not merely an image or reflection of God. The Son Himself is God. He is the absolutely authentic representation of God’s being.

Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me, has seen the Father.”  (John 14: 9)

He has made Himself known.  As believers, we are called to make Him known.

(Genesis 45: 1-46: 27, Psalm 36, Hebrews 1, Paraphrased & Modified)
