Although many of us have already started decorating for Christmas, this week our attention has shifted to counting our blessings as we celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends.
What is referred to in our history books as the “First Thanksgiving” occurred after the Pilgrims had gathered their first harvest in the New World. The year was October 1621. This feast was not just one meal, but a celebration that lasted three days. Records tell us it was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.
Our God loves feasting and celebrating as well. The Bible is filled with stories of designated feast days and those that arose from current events. Remember the impromptu celebratory feast when the prodigal son found his way home?
We have all been a part of this story; some of us have found our way home and some of us are still wandering. In both cases, our Father is watching and waiting. He is waiting for us to turn our attention from the cares of the world and focus on His goodness. He is waiting for the wayward to look in His direction so He can show them the way home.
We pray that for this Thanksgiving holiday, you have many fun and joy-filled moments with those you love. We pray also that you are able to spend time with the lover of your soul, the giver of every blessing and gift.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
The Kingdom Winds Crew.
