God’s Memory Book

Not one detail pertaining to your life goes unnoticed by God.

The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance

was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name.

Malachi 3:16b ESV

One summer I spent hours sorting, cropping, gluing, and embellishing family photos that my grandmother had collected over her lifetime to compile a memory book. As my grandmother shared the stories chronicling her life, and the lives of her children and grandchildren, I carefully penned the details beside the pictures. Along with birth dates and wedding dates, it was important for her to note when each family member invited Christ into their hearts––the day they chose to fear the Lord above all else.

Recently, I read through the book of Malachi. In chapter 3, Malachi reveals God keeps His own book of remembrance. In verses 13-15, God rebukes one group of Israelites who have become chronic complainers. Then He applauds another group for what He heard: The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name. These were the ones who remained faithful to Him despite adversity and hardship. And their faithfulness did not go unnoticed. It was so honoring He even recorded its occurrence.

Just as my grandmother cherished and recorded the faithfulness of God to bring her children unto Him, God is penning love notes about those who are steadfast in Him. As one who cherishes words, I smile heavenward at this revelation. Knowing God is writing about me spurs me on in my faith journey.

Friend, God is scribbling a heartfelt account of your faithfulness. Not one detail pertaining to your life goes unnoticed by Him. Take heart. He is present in your circumstances.

Prayer

Dear Father, help me remember You never miss one aspect of my life. Thank You for reminding me of Your great love for me. Give me strength to remain steadfast in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
