God Be Merciful!

God, be merciful to me,

a sinner!

So easily forgotten,

My desperate need within.

I choose a lofty perch,

Above the flow of mercy,

Far from the reach of grace.

Comfortable.

Satisfied.

Safe.

A spectator,

Unaware.

God, be merciful to me,

A sinner!

Unseat me!

Send your waves against me!

Sever my grip,

Drag me down!

In your torrent,

Submerge me!

Steal my breath!

Remove adornments,

Cast off garments,

Tear away masks!

Everything exposed,

Cleanse me!

God, be merciful to me,

A sinner!

In the depths,

Confront me!

In the silence,

Roar!

In the darkness,

Shine!

In death,

Breathe life!

God, be merciful to me,

A sinner!

Only then,

Still the waters,

Bring me to shore.

In my reflection,

Reveal yourself!

Ever-increasing,

Unrestrained!

Spring forth,

Fountain of Life!

Living Water,

Goodness and Mercy!

God, be merciful to me,

A sinner!
