Faithful Love

He is faithful to me when I’m totally unfaithful to Him. He is committed to my wellbeing when I don’t even give Him the time of day. He extends grace even after all of the times I’ve taken it and used it as a paper towel to clean up the mess that I would make again and again.

God is faithful. Truly, truly faithful.

I’m going to do my best not to sound sappy writing this, but I’m probably going to fail pretty badly, so just brace yourself.

As a part of Lent, I’m staying clear of social media for the most part (except for posting blogs, obviously), and I’ve been meditating on certain scriptural passages. Here’s my latest one.

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:22-23,‬ ‭CSB‬‬

You know those times when a concept or idea that you’ve known for a long time hits you in a way that makes you feel like you’re learning it for the first time? That happened to me the other day.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve known intellectually that God’s faithfulness is otherworldly. But after taking the time to really read those couple verses and actually digest them for a moment, I felt like I’d had no idea of just how faithful God truly is. What really hit me in that moment was not so much the limitlessness of His faithfulness but the fact that He chooses to expend it on me.

He is faithful to me when I’m totally unfaithful to Him.

He is committed to my wellbeing when I don’t even give Him the time of day.

He loves me in spite of how many times I’ve betrayed Him…while claiming to love Him back.

He extends grace even after all of the times I’ve taken it and used it as a paper towel to clean up the mess that I would make again and again.

He’s shown me so much mercy…infinitely more than I could ever hope to fit into one blog post.

I’m on the verge of tears even as I type this, not because of sadness or regret but because of a renewed appreciation for the fact that God’s faithful love isn’t based on me.

Thank you, Lord, for your faithful love. And thanks to those reading for being patient with my sappiness.

I can’t promise that it will get any better.
