Faithful and True

Every part of the Trinity reveals the truth. His truth is His Word, His truth, His very essence is Faithful and True.

What do these two words [(faithful + true) mean to you? What comes to mind when you hear these words?

For me, I remember this:  “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called “Faithful and True.”  (Revelation 19: 11)

What does faithful mean to you? Someone who is completely trustworthy is someone who is faithful.

Who is that one person in your life that is completely trustworthy?  The older I get, the more I realize there is only ONE who is completely trustworthy.  His name is Jesus, the Christ, who rides as Warrior, Messiah, and King.  “He is the faithful and true witness, He ruler of God’s creation–His creation…( Revelation 3: 14)

People often disappoint us, but God never disappoints.  Scripture teaches us that God is a God of truth–meaning He IS TRUE to His promises.  The Hebrew word for truth here is Amen.

In 2 Corinthians 1:20, it states this:  “For no matter how many promises God as made, they are yes in Christ.  And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.”

Did you catch that? No matter how many promises God has made–they are yes.

Every promise we have been given personally–and/or from His Word, they are Yes!  In other words, His word to you shall not lie, they shall be delivered to you as “Yes and Amen.”

Does that mean that everything we ask for will be a yes?  I will answer that question with a question.  Is everything good for us?  Certainly not!  I do know that God is good and He is good to me, all the time, even if the answer is no to something.

Why do we doubt His Word?  Why do we doubt His faithfulness to us?
Could it be that we are listening to the lies of the evil one?  Could it be that we have not understood that God IS Truth?  God cannot lie.

The deceiver, satan, the evil one, has been lying since the beginning of creation, causing us to doubt what God has spoken to us and what God has promised.  The lie started way back in the Garden of Eden when Adam was given instruction from God.  Satan asked, “Did God really say? (Genesis 3: 1)

Even today, that is the same question that we struggle with when we start to doubt God and His Word.  That’s why Satan’s name, one of his names, is the Father of Lies.

Jesus addressed this by asking, “Why is my language not clear to you?  Because you are unable to hear what I say.  He, the devil, was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in Him.  When he lies (to you), he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the Father of Lies.”  (John 8: 43-44)

Jesus has said, “I am the way and the truth and the life…”  (John 14: 6)  God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit–all in one.

Every part of the Trinity reveals the truth. His truth is His Word, His truth, His very essence is Faithful and True. This is His character, His nature.

All three persons of the Trinity are linked with truth.  The first person of the trinity, God the Father…”Into your hands I commit my spirit, redeem me, O Lord, the God of Truth.”  (Psalm 31: 5)

The second person of the trinity, Jesus…”I am the…truth.”  (John 14: 6)

The third person of the trinity, the Holy Spirit,  “I will give you another Counselor to be with you forever–The Spirit of Truth.”  (John 14: 7)  The Holy Spirit’s job is to bring people to the Truth of God, to bring people to a living, active relationship with God, through Jesus Christ.

Let’s look at what else Truth does in greater depth:  “Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the GOD OF TRUTH; He who takes an oath in the land will swear by the God of Truth.

Here is how powerful truth is in our lives…the last part of that verse says:
“For the past troubles will be FORGOTTEN AND HIDDEN FROM MY EYES.”  (Isaiah 65: 16)

TRUTH ERASES OUR PAST!  When we come to the truth, it sets us free from our troubles, (sins) and covers over us so that God does not see us anymore in our sin.   He sees us in the truth–not in our trouble.  Truth ON US–hides God seeing us as sinners.  It is hidden from His eyes AND forgotten.  That’s amazing! That phrase “He covers me” has taken on a whole new depth of understanding!

Is it any wonder why it is SO important to always speak and tell the truth.  We don’t need to hide the truth. When we reveal or speak the truth, we become hidden in God.   He sees and knows all anyways.  Nothing can be hidden from Him; yet, He desires for us to be hidden in Him, not hidden away from Him.  That’s what lying does, it keeps us away from Him.

Remember the fig leaves in the book of Genesis?  When Adam and Eve were running from God, trying to hide what they have done; God in His mercy sought them out by asking, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9) In sewing fig leaves together, making an attempt to cover themselves.  It was man’s way of attempting to cover and hide their shame, which only God can cover.

Here is what happens in the transition when we come to Truth, when we embrace truth, when we embrace, Jesus, who IS THE TRUTH!

“If you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him, if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent, THEN you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and without fear.”  You will surely forget your trouble; recalling it only as waters gone by.”  (Job 11: 13-16)

Truth truly sets us free.  When we come to the truth, embrace the truth (we can’t just come), devote ourselves to Him; we walk in His faithfulness and His truth.

When we receive ALL that He has promised, All that He is, All that we will be. This, my friends, is freedom. This is what truth does.

This is who He is–Jesus, the Creator–The Yes and Amen–The One and only One, who is Faithful and True, and who is coming back out of heaven one day–coming back for the bride, the Church, who has made herself ready.”  (Revelation 19: 7)

For blessed is the man who will eat at the feast, in the kingdom of God.  (Luke 14: 16)   “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the lamb, and He added, “These are the true words of God.” (Revelation 19: 9)

It’s time to prepare and to make ourselves ready.   For “The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.  The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to ALL who call on Him in truth.”  (Psalm 145: 13,18)

Keep Calling on him, for He is near; He is faithful and true.
