Do You Know God?

When you know God intimately you will walk in His authority.

Recently as I was in prayer, the Lord spoke to me and said, “They don’t know me.” When He spoke, it was as if His words were like thunder. I could feel the depth and heaviness of this word and sense the authority in His voice. This word was so strong that it almost felt like a warning.

Then as I continued to pray, the Lord reminded me of John 15:5-8 which says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” Jesus makes it so clear here that the true sign of being one of His followers is bearing fruit. Our lives will bear fruit when we abide in Him, the vine. We do this by walking with God daily, spending time in His presence, in His Word, and walking in obedience.

God can use anyone. Just because you may do good works or perform miracles does not mean you intimately know God. In the same way, some people know celebrities or people in the public eye by name without ever having met them or actually knowing them; there are those who only know God by name association. Matthew 7:21-23 says, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” There is a difference between gifting and fruit. Some are naturally gifted and can be deceived into thinking because they are operating in their gifting that they truly know God. However, the only way we know that we truly know God is if our lives are bearing fruit. There is also a difference between loving and knowing. You can love your favorite artist, entertainer, or minister but that does not mean you know them intimately. God desires for each of us to know Him deeply and to have an intimate relationship with Him. We can say that we love God but unless we truly know Him our lives will not bear fruit.

When you know God intimately you will walk in His authority. Are you walking in the authority given to us by Jesus? If you are, keep drawing near to God and watch as your life produces abundant fruit! If not, this is the hour to draw near to the Lord! Seek Him while He may be found! This word may thrust some into a season of repentance, fasting, and prayer. If your life isn’t bearing fruit, get connected to the vine. This word has the power to transform your entire life. In this hour God is challenging each of us to ask ourselves, “Do I know God?” and to draw near to Him so that each of our lives can bear Kingdom fruit!
