Do We Understand The Influence of Our Thought Life?

Who we are on the inside and what we say on the outside should line up.

As a believer, how do we stand strong when it comes to our thought life?  As we look at a couple of verses today, Paul is exhorting the Philippian Christians on this very subject.  He tells them to have their minds set on heavenly things, even in the midst of struggles.

He concludes his exhortation by saying, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.”  Philippians 4: 8

Whatever a person allows to occupy his/her mind will sooner or later determine their speech and their actions.

You’ve heard the truth to this statement, too.  Here it is:

Whatever we focus on, we empower.

So, the question is, do we want to empower our lives with God?

Paul lets his audience grab hold of how to master this skill.  He says, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me–put it into practice.”  Philippians 4: 9a

When we do that, what are the results?  “The God of peace will be with you.”  Philippians 4: 9b

The combination of these virtues of truth, nobility, and being admirable produce a wholesome thought pattern that can influence how we live.

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND? Put these virtues into practice!  “As a man thinks, so he is.” Proverbs 23: 7   Who we are on the inside and what we say on the outside should line up. We are to be influencers for others.  It all begins with how we occupy and influence our minds.  Reading God’s Word will transform how we think and act.  His Word is still alive and active.
