Do We Confess Our Love For the Lord Like a Bride?

We are betrothed to Him as our Bridegroom King, so our love for Him should be like a marriage.

One of my favorite chapters in the Bible is the Song of Solomon.  In fact, as you know, my entire website was started around a bridal theme and the love of the Bridegroom, Jesus, for His Bride, the church.

The entire book is about the love that takes place within a marriage.  But as I grew closer to the Lord, I began to see that this book clearly defines the love, the intensity, and the beauty of a relationship that should exist between God and the believer.

We, as Christ followers (male and female), are defined by Jesus as His Bride.

We are betrothed to Him as our Bridegroom King, so our love for Him should be like a marriage.

The very first chapter of the Song of Solomon starts out with passion as the Bride confesses her love for her lover.  She says, “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!  For your love is better than wine; your anointing oils are fragrant; your name is oil poured out therefore, virgins love you.  Draw me after you; let us run.  The king has brought me into his chambers.”  Song of Songs 1:1-4

The love language is pretty strong. Maybe that is why this book is not preached too often from the pulpit.

As the Bride describes her love and devotion she is enveloped by His radiant presence.  She wants a lasting, deep relationship, not just a casual acquaintance, but one that she knows intimately.  She longs to be near Him, to run with Him, and to be brought into His chambers.

She is loving her Beloved with all of her heart, all of her soul, and all of her mind.  She is consumed with His love for her and her love for Him.  She’s been kissed by Her Lord.

Do we have a depth of love for Jesus as our Bridegroom?  Do we long to be near Him, sit with Him, communicate and hear what’s on His heart?

Our Bridegroom is longing to for us to know Him in this very special way.  He delights in revealing the secrets of His heart as He takes His Bride into His chambers.  To enter into a chamber is used metaphorically of prayer and communion with God.  This place has been termed as the Secret Place, where the “Shelter of the Most High God will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.”  Psalm 91: 1,4

God is looking for His Bride to come into this place with Him and in Him.

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND?  Make a decision to put away anything that substitutes for His presence, and join all that you are, your deepest parts, to our Bridegroom.
