The hands of God have been at work, touching our lives for the good even when our disbelief questioned whether He was present and at work in our most painful experiences. One of the greatest breakthroughs in our faith comes when we realize He was always there for us and at work for our good, even when the evidence of His presence had not yet been revealed.
When I was a detective, collecting fingerprints was part of the job. The collection of a fingerprint would link the print to a person. We didn’t know if there were any prints left behind until we dusted for their presence, stroking a brush filled with print powder over a suspected surface or object in question. There were times when only a partial print was obtained, yet it led to the identification of the suspect.
In Romans 1, Paul had just finished speaking about the anger of God against those who suppress the truth, choosing instead to live lives of wickedness. These people knew the truth about God because He made it obvious through creation. Paul said, “Throughout human history, the fingerprints of God were upon them, yet they refused to honor him as God or even be thankful for his kindness. Instead, they entertained corrupt and foolish thoughts about what God was like. This left them with nothing but misguided hearts, steeped in moral darkness” (Romans 1:21 TPT).
The fingerprints of God are upon all He has created. Our faith requires that we first believe they are present no matter what we see taking place and then choose to search them out to affirm what the Lord has spoken. This investigative work is accomplished in two ways, “honor him as God” and “be thankful for his kindness.”
When a negative situation in our life has developed and it seems to a natural mind that God is nowhere to be found, the fingerprints of His presence will be revealed when we choose to honor Him as God and speak words of thankfulness for His kindness while waiting for the evidence of His presence to appear.
The fingerprints of God are all over the lives of those who believe. Those prints are only revealed by faith when we choose to believe He is always at work performing what He promised. A profound revelation takes place when we honor and thank the Lord before the evidence comes to light. That is the purest of all acts of faith. In those moments of worship, we will begin to see the evidence that God’s hands have been touching and healing those places in our lives that seemed impossible to imagine before He made Himself known.
