Discovering Our Calling

Discovering our calling is rooted in finding the unique identities that were predestined for us in Christ.

Shame Rx:

Discovering our calling is about learning to celebrate progress over perfection.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”

— 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (ESV)

Developing Our Calling

Investing and developing our gifts is not self-focused, it is demonstrating the generosity of God’s goodness.

God is delighted when we begin to discover our identity and gifts as a Father delights in a child. Discovery is not shameful; it is a method of celebration!

A path is full of sights to see and beauty to relish. Our way to discovering our callings may not be a straight path or even one that makes sense. Condemnation may tell us that it is selfish to seek out your calling, but it is not true. Seeking out and discovering your calling will only help you release a fragrance of Christ in a thirsty world. Finding and developing a calling is a path of sacrifice done out of love for others for to give our gifts to others bless our Father’s heart.

Developing Our Calling—Endurance

To patiently wait for a discovery and then endure to the development of a calling is not an overnight process. This is a choice that is made every day and the culmination of choices adds up to projects, speeches, a finished book, or other products that have a way to reach people you may never meet. Daily faithfulness along with the choice to embrace your gifts while finding the joy of discovery about yourself and others is a priceless gift. Valuable gifts take time to create and a calling is no different.

Developing Our Calling—Fruits

There is no shame in a longer process; the end result is not the only focus for contentment becomes a fruit of discovery.

So do not give up, for the prize of fulfilling your calling is around the corner waiting to bless and bring the kingdom to heaven. Your gifts may be the answer to someone’s problem or may ignite their path to healing.

So shame off you! Enjoy the process and let the abundance of Christ meet you in the path to discovering your calling.
