Christian Dad: What Does this Mean?

A Christian dad is the spiritual LEADER of his home and will lead well from a biblical, Christlike foundation.

Here’s the thing—being a dad is a lot of work. Regardless of age, the dad life is exhausting. So, what is a dad or, better put, a Christian dad?

Many would likely say a dad is someone who has kids, right? What if I told you that’s not the only definition of what a dad is, especially a Christian dad?

A Christian dad is one who loves his wife well! As spelled out in Scripture:

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.”  Ephesians 5:25-27 ESV

A Christian dad loves his children BUT also disciplines them NOT out of anger but with the GOAL of heart transformation, which will create behavioral changes! Jesus changes hearts!

A Christian dad should be a man who PRAYS often. I want my kids to see me praying daily. I want them to see their dad taking his praises, thanks, worries, struggles, problems, and everything else to the Lord in prayer because prayer is powerful.

A Christian dad will remain CONNECTED to the local Body of Christ (the Church) and will lead by example to his family the importance of gathering with other believers for corporate worship, teaching, and prayer.

A Christian dad will OWN his mistakes and failures. He will admit when he’s wrong and will not allow pride to control him.

A Christian dad is the spiritual LEADER of his home and will lead well from a biblical, Christlike foundation.

This is NOT all a Christian dad is or should be. If anything, this is only a shortlist of what I want to be as a Christian dad. Although I am far from perfect, I hope and pray these can be said of me and my boys when they are dads themselves someday.
