PASTOR MATTHEW MAHER

OCEAN CITY, NEW JERSEY

Revelation 2:12-17

In this message, Pastor Matthew Maher continues the Seven Churches of Revelation with the letter to Pergamos—the Compromised Church (Revelation 2:12–17).

Once the capital of Asia Minor and the seat of emperor worship, Pergamos was filled with idols, temples, and the serpent symbol of Asclepius, the so-called “god of healing.” Yet even in the shadow of Satan’s throne, Christ’s light through His people could not be extinguished (John 1:5; Philippians 2:15).

Discover what it means when Jesus wields the sharp two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12; Revelation 19:15), why the Church was called to repent (Revelation 2:16), and how compromise through pleasure and control still corrupts believers today (Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 6:14–17).

“When Satan can’t crush the Church from the outside, He corrupts it from the inside.”

About the Author

Matthew Maher is an author, speaker, and pastor. Through various vocations, he aims to inspire conscience and instigate conviction. Matthew has gone from pro to con to Christ (From the heights of success to the flatline of failure). As a professional soccer player, he followed the trends of the world while ignoring the truth of God’s Word.

As a result, in 2009, a life-altering failure would change his trajectory and have him collide head-on with the redemption of the Savior. Now he is no longer persuaded by the trends of the culture around him and is committed to share the truth of Christ within him, whatever the cost.
