Breaking Mental Myopia: “Black Lives Matter”

As Christians/Kingdom Citizens we need to separate the absolute truth (and the heart of the Father) that “black lives matter” from the specific organization Black Lives Matter.

The Kingdom of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ isn’t a Democratic or Republican ideology.

Yet what we’re seeing right now in the body of Christ is mental myopia on the topic of “Black Lives Matter.”

Mental myopia: the result of seeing people and situations through an “all or nothing” lens instead of Heaven’s (Kingdom) lens. It is destructive and runs in direct opposition to Kingdom thinking because it discounts the all-powerful nature of our God and the fullness of the King and his kingdom (where He rules with love, grace, truth, righteousness, mercy, and justice).

As Christians/Kingdom Citizens we need to separate the absolute truth (and the heart of the Father) that “black lives matter” from the specific organization Black Lives Matter.

(Take a deep breath and please read to the end)

A video from 2015 recently surfaced with an interview with the Black Lives Matter organization’s founder Patrisse Cullors where she says the following “We actually do have an ideological frame. Myself and Alicia in particular, we’re trained organizers. We are trained Marxists. We are super versed on ideological theories.”

What is Marxism?

Investopedia.com defines it as follows: “Marxism is a social, political, and economic philosophy named after Karl Marx which examines the effect of capitalism on labor, productivity, and economic development and argues for a worker revolution to overturn capitalism in favor of communism. Marxism posits that the struggle between social classes, specifically between the bourgeoisie, or capitalists, and the proletariat, or workers, defines economic relations in a capitalist economy and will inevitably lead to revolutionary communism.”

It’s not my job to tell you how to think about that, but it’s important to know the words that came from the founder of the organization.

You can also freely do research on Marxism as well as research the focus of the organization, seek God, and draw your own conclusions with the Holy Spirit related to its specific agenda and how it matches up against a Kingdom agenda.

As a Christian / Kingdom citizen, it’s not the way of the King to harshly judge anyone who won’t say #BlackLivesMatter and #BLM due to their concerns and disagreement with the agenda of the actual organization and the flood of donations currently being made to it. It is not (necessarily) an indicator of a lack of concern or interest in black lives. As a Christian/Kingdom citizen, we need to view and address issues primarily through a Kingdom (not myopically political) lens.

Bottom line: black lives actually mattering is not the same thing as the Black Lives Matter organization.
