Betrayal Comes In Many Forms

Sisters and brothers, if betrayal is fresh in your heart, God will turn your mourning into dancing and remove the sorrow you feel.

Unfortunately, betrayal comes in many forms such as disloyalty, deception, breach of faith, breach of trust, stab-in-the-back, etc.  Every one of us have encountered this ugly evil, even Jesus did.  If you’ve been betrayed, it may be helpful to remember that it’s not the person, it’s the evil spirit behind it.

Here’s how to recognize that spirit in operation.  “The Chief Priests and the Teachers of the Law were already looking for some way to get rid of Jesus.”  (Luke 22:2)

  • The enemy lurks around awaiting an opportunity to land.

Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.  And Judas went to the Chief Priests…and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.  They were delighted.”  (Luke 22: 3-5)

  • As soon as Satan entered, he landed.
  • Satan’s control over Judas may indicate that he was not fully committed to Jesus. Or, he was deceived and had a love of money that lured him in?  Remember, he was the Treasurer of the group and did receive money for betraying the Lord.  Whatever the reason was, on why he turned on Jesus, we know he was influenced by Satan.

Judas went to the Chief Priests and they were delighted Judas wanted to betray Jesus.

  • Those who are completely committed and dedicated to the Lord will not delight in evil deeds.
  • If someone tries to put you in that type of situation, don’t take the bait.

Jesus knew the betrayer was breaking bread with Him.  He said, “The hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.”  (Luke 22: 21)

In the Old Testament, Joseph experienced betrayal from his master’s wife, who tried to lure him by making sexual advances toward him.  He repeatedly denied her, because of his loyalty to his master, and his dedication to God of not wanting to sin against Him.  He was falsely accused and thrown into prison being not guilty!

  • Always stay loyal and true to the Master.

So we ask, why did you allow that God?  He had to pay a penalty for a crime that he did not commit!  Jesus did just that when He died on the cross for us.  (Selah)

It’s not the end of the story.  “While Joseph was there in prison, the Lord was with him; He showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.”  (Genesis 39: 21)

  • When you have favor with God, you’ll get favor with man.
  • When God is with you, you’ll have success in whatever you do.

Learning to rise above betrayal is so difficult.  Meditate on this Psalm if you still need to be lifted up and out:  “I will exalt you, O Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.  O Lord, my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.”  (Psalm 30: 1-2)

Here’s what He promises, even if it takes some time:  “You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent.  O Lord, my God, I will give you thanks forever.”  (Psalm 30: 11-12)

Sisters and brothers, if betrayal is fresh in your heart, God will turn your mourning into dancing and remove the sorrow you feel, blanketed with, right now; and once again, your heart will sing!

(Luke 22: 1-38, Genesis 39, Psalm 30, Paraphrased & Modified)
