As we begin this post, I want to declare one of my favorite two-word sentences. That sentence is “Kindness Matters.”
So how can we pass kindness on?
Well, there are many ways, too numerous to count. Kindness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that has great power. The Bible is very clear about this. Job, in his anguish and depressive state, said this about his friends, “Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend, forsakes the fear of the Almighty.” Job 6: 14 His friends were proving to be undependable when Job needed them. He really wasn’t asking them for anything except their friendship and counsel.
He needed the kindness of a friend to minister to his grieving spirit.
He was experiencing great loss and needed the kindness of his friends, but he received harsh words of discipline at times.
God instructs us about extending His kindness: “As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3: 12
This verse is tucked away in the chapter talking about being made alive in Christ.
Jesus extended much kindness to us; we must do the same.
“When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit…”Titus 3: 4-5
Let’s read that again and know what God is saying:
Kindness, love, and mercy were the attributes that saved us. (Selah)
The washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit is what keeps us.
This all was put into motion when His kindness appeared.
As we close, remember this precious scripture. “Consider therefore the kindness…of God…kindness to you, provided that you continue in His kindness.” Romans 11: 22
Folks, kindness matters; be intentional about passing it on.
