Begin Again – Fruit Of Righteousness

God’s righteousness produces this quietness and confidence, which is our strength.

How do we define what the fruit of righteousness means?

It’s when the Lord blesses abundantly in prosperity or other ways.  It could also indicate if acts of charity are done, they will be rewarded.  As I researched this phrase, this is the description that I liked best:

Very often, the righteousness of God refers to the faithfulness with which He acts.

In Psalm 72, we see the glorious effects of God’s righteous reign, including this faithfulness.  May it lead to understanding how righteous, prosperous, and enduring He is as He lavishes this all on us, His followers.  This Psalm is also a prayer for the king, indicating our King Jesus as well, our Messiah and His rule.

Let’s dive in deeper and see what the fruit of righteousness produces.  Here we go:

The fruit of righteousness brings forth prosperity.

  • Psalm 72: 3: “The mountains will bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness.”

What is the Psalmist saying?  Righteousness in this realm will be like fertilizing rain on the land, producing prosperity in abundance as God blesses His people.

The fruit of righteousness brings forth peace, quietness, and confidence.

  • Isaiah 32: 17: “The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.”

Who doesn’t want peace in our lives?  Jesus is our Prince of Peace. His righteousness produces this quietness and confidence, which is our strength.

Being filled with the fruits of righteousness is what is expected of all Christ’s followers.  It’s produced by Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit for the glory and praise of our God.  This is the ultimate goal of all that God does in every believer and follower of Christ.

As I finalize this post, “This is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ–to the glory and praise of God.”  Philippians 1: 9-11
