AUGUST: Eighth month of the Gregorian calendar Biblical meaning of the number 8: New beginning

For weeks, the Lord has been bringing me back to the same verse in Joshua 18. This verse keeps resounding so loudly in my spirit, every day, all day long, and I know it’s a word, not only for me but for so many!

Joshua 18:3 3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the Lord God of your fathers hath given you? (KJV)

We’re going to look at four words in this passage: “SLACK”, “GO”, “LAND”, and GIVEN

SLACK: The New King James version uses the word “NEGLECT”. Both words express a lack of action and interest that was exhibited by the seven remaining tribes of Israel, in claiming their inheritance!

Hebrew raw-faw’ Meaning: to sink, relax, sink down, let drop, be disheartened, withdraw, idle, abandon Greek an-ee’-ay-mee Meaning: to send back, relax, loosen, to give up, omit, calm, leave, not to uphold, to let sink

GO Hebrew bo Meaning: to go in, enter, come in, attack (enemy), come to pass, to attain Greek ag-ap-ah’-o to welcome, to entertain, to be fond of, to love dearly, to be well pleased, to be contented at or with a thing

LAND Hebrew eh’-rets country, territory, district, region, tribal territory, piece of ground Greek ag’-ree-os wild, uncultivated, unreclaimed

GIVEN Hebrew naw-than’ to give, bestow, grant, permit, ascribe, employ, devote, consecrate, dedicate, pay wages, sell, exchange, lend, commit, entrust, give over, deliver up, yield produce, occasion Greek ag’-o to lead, guide, direct

As I read the meanings of the word “slack”, I could not help but paint a picture in my mind of the type of people Joshua was speaking to.

Although the Israelites that came out of Egypt were all dead, their descendant displayed the same attitude, and character traits as their ancestors: disobedient, lazy, complacent, and entitled. People that did not want to make any sacrifices to improve their present condition. The land that The Lord had given them was still occupied by the Canaanites, and that meant the Israelites had to go to war to appropriate themselves of the land. They knew about all the miracles that The Lord Had performed for their ancestors; they knew God always did what He promised. They knew that God promised Joshua, that they would possess every territory they would step on, and still, they hesitated and neglected to take what God Had given them.

Joshua 1:3 NLT I promise you what I promised Moses-‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you—

I asked: “God what do you want me to say to Your people?”

“How long are you going to idly sit and let the enemy rob you of your identity, and your inheritance? You are MY child, My heir! You have the authority and the power! If I said that it is already yours, then it is! Haven’t I kept My word in the past? All you need to do is get to the finish line, knowing that I have already won the war for you! Haven’t I said that healing is yours? Restoration is yours? Prosperity is yours? Go after what is yours! If someone left you an inheritance, would you claim it or would you refuse it? Because by not claiming My promises as yours, you are refusing, forfeiting, what My Son accomplished on the cross. Everything you need is already there, stand up and show the enemy who you are!

You are a child of The King of Kings, and as such, no one can stand against you when you show them your signet ring! You cannot let discouragement, depression, doubt, and fear rob you of your inheritance! Cast off every worry, and fear, don’t listen to the taunts of the enemy, and take hold of the deed and the key that I have delivered right in your hands! Storm into the enemy’s camp! Take the land by force, kick the enemy out, take possession of what is yours! I Have entrusted you with much, and I require much from you! You are to steward this territory, this influence, this calling, this anointing! I expect you to make this dry land fruitful, to bring forth a harvest. Cultivate it, tend it, love it, and guard it! I am leading you into your Promised Land, will you obey My commands? I have kept My promise, will you? The greater the anointing and influence, the greater the battle! But the greater will be your reward! Obedience is better than sacrifice, but obedience always requires sacrifice! I will cause a second wind to blow into your midst, I will send my mighty angels to stand, and fight with you as you invade the land and take possession of your inheritance! Rise up my child, rise up from the ashes of the past, clothe yourself with your Heavenly regalia, and bring Heaven to Earth by claiming your inheritance and fulfilling your destiny!”

The Lord is freeing people from discouragement, and bestowing upon them boldness, resolution, and steadfast faith! They will rise up, as faith rises in them to shake off discouragement, and claim their inheritance! They will roar like never before, storm fearlessly into the enemy’s camp and scatter them like ants! The true heirs are rising from the ashes in all their glory and they are taking their rightful place as sons and daughters of The King of Kings!

Romans 8:15 NLT 15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.[h] Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”[i]16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

Joshua 1:1-9 1 After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. 3 I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you— 4 from the Negev wilderness in the south to the Lebanon mountains in the north, from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea[a] in the west, including all the land of the Hittites.’ 5 No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. 6 “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
