Assured Our God is a Waymaker

Moses obeyed and saw the miraculous provision of safety as they proceeded through the Red Sea.

He will make a way!  What is it in your life that you need God to make a way for you?  Is it a way into a new job?  Is it a breakthrough in your finances?  Maybe it’s a relationship that needs to be repaired?  Is there a way that is seeming right to you, but do you need the wisdom to proceed further?

Whatever it is, God promises to make a way, through the pain, through all the uncomfortableness, and through the mounds of uncertainty.  He promises to bring you through that hardship (never leaving you) and to the other side.

As I reviewed the account of Moses, leading the Israelites out of Egypt, here’s what I noticed as I recounted his journey.

KINGDOM TRUTH #1:  God will usually lead us through difficulty, that is not the easiest or shortest way through.

“When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on a road through Philistine country, though that was shorter.  So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.”  (Exodus 13: 17-18)

KINGDOM TRUTH #2: Oftentimes, our journey feels like we are going around and around the mountain.

KINGDOM TRUTH #3:  Believe that His way will get us through.  Believe He will make a way.

KINGDOM TRUTH #4:  Our God is our Waymaker.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”  (Isaiah 55: 8)

As Moses continues on his journey, realizing its not the easiest nor shortest route, he then hears the Lord say, “Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the Sea.”  (Exodus 13: 2)

My first response was turn back?  Yes, after going to my map, God was telling them to go Northward, in the general direction from which they had come.

KINGDOM TRUTH #5:  God sometimes will lead us to take three steps forward, then two steps back.

KINGDOM TRUTH #6:  When we don’t understand His leading, we have to trust the way, as He is the way.

Through it all, He is watching over us.  The name Migdol means watchtower.

Why does our journey “out” and “through” seem like it’s getting nowhere?

Maybe, God has another plan, another route for us to take.  He is working out all things for our good, “throughout” our lifetime.

Here’s what the Lord told Moses on why He was changing their route:  “Pharaoh will think, “The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.”  (Exodus 14: 3)

KINGDOM TRUTH # 7  If you feel hemmed in, God will provide a way out.

KINGDOM TRUTH #8  Our way of escape is provided, even if we don’t understand what’s going on.

There is usually something going on behind the scenes that we cannot see nor understand.  Trust Him if you’re up against a wall, even if it’s a wall of water.

Greater glory shall be gained through it all.

God said to Moses, “I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know  that I am the Lord.”  (Exodus 14: 4)

KINGDOM TRUTH #9  God has other people in mind when we are in our trials.

KINGDOM TRUTH #10  He positions us with power to show His glory, by coming between our victory and our enemy.

“Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them.  The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel.   Throughout the night, the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side...”  (Exodus 14: 19-20)

What do we do next?  Note that Moses waited for the Angel of God to go-between.  Did he wonder what he would do next?  Of course, He did, but he didn’t get stuck there.  He believed in the miracle-working power of the Lord.   He chose to look beyond what he was up against presently.

He remembered God’s promise, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.”  (Exodus 14: 14)

During this whole ordeal, God asks Moses a very important question:  “Why are you crying out to me?  You tell the Israelites to move on.  Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water.”  (Exodus 14: 14-16)

What are we doing with what God has given us?

Moses obeyed and saw the miraculous provision of safety as they proceeded through the Red Sea.

KINGDOM TRUTH #11  There are things waiting to be opened up to us after we obey.

When God uses us, He must always get the glory.  He reminded Moses once again, saying, “I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army through his chariots and his horsemen.”  (Exodus 14: 17)

We know the outcome!  The enemy’s army coming against the Israelites was destroyed, and God gets the glory!

KINGDOM TRUTH #12  We get the victory, He gains the glory.

There is something to be gained by our obedience, not by our victory.

With God, we will gain the victory…”  (Psalm 60: 12)

If we take the glory, it disqualifies our story.
