When we change directions what motivates us? Do we randomly choose another direction, or do we seek help by following a guide? When we choose to follow the Good Shepherd, Jesus, we can be confident that we will be moving in the right direction. He is our Guide who always leads us the right way, at the right time, in the right direction! So why does it seem so hard to change direction and move ahead?
Here’s a promise that I discovered to give us some courage in changing course: “He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones.” (Proverbs 2:8)
KINGDOM POINT: If you are a faithful follower of the Good Shepherd, He will guard your course or path.
Are you on a new path? Are you thinking about a new direction, perhaps a vocation or location change? The Shepherd promises to guard and protect you along the way. Stay faithful to Him and He will lead and guide through His wisdom.
Let’s see HOW well-cushioned this verse is with the one before and the one after. If we look at Proverbs 2, verse 7 (the verse before) it says this “For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom made accessible to His godly lovers. He becomes your bodyguard as you follow His ways, protecting and guarding you as you choose what is right.” (Proverbs 2: 7, TPT)
Now let’s look at verse 9 (the verse after) and discover more. It says this: “Then you will discover all that is just, proper, and fair, and be empowered to make the right decisions as you walk into your destiny.” (Proverbs 2: 9)
We just made a sandwich with these three verses. Let’s summarize them:
- Vs. 7 We receive wisdom and a bodyguard along the way as we choose His way(s).
- Vs. 8 We receive continual guarded protection.
- Vs. 9 We get to discover His ways, be empowered to make the right decisions, and walk out and into our destiny.
Can we trust our Shepherd enough to move out and move forward? Can we be like these sheep, pictured above, to be led and guided by His voice and His lead, even though they might have some rough terrain ahead?
Walking into our destiny is where the Shepherd always leads.
KINGDOM KEY: Smooth paths in life are not always guaranteed, but being guarded, protected, and empowered to walk right into our future is promised.
Let His Word motivate and guide you along your new journey. When it’s time to rest, look for the green pastures and still waters to refresh you; but always be attentive and intentional to hear your Shepherd’s voice.
