How do we achieve inner peace? We don’t just desire the familiar “peace on earth,” we want the authentic peace that is so deep within that nothing rattles us.
This peace passes human understanding and comes from the Holy Spirit.
Let this be your prayer and request: “I’ll listen carefully for your voice and wait to hear whatever you say. Let me hear your promise of peace, the message every one of your Godly ones loves and longs to hear.” (Psalm 85: 8)
Yes, Lord, promised peace we desire. “Don’t let us in our ignorance turn back from following you. For I know your power and presence shines on all your lovers. Your glory hovers all who bow low before you. Your mercy and your truth have married each other. Your righteousness and peace have kissed.” (Psalm 85: 8-9)
Isn’t it interesting that Jesus calls Himself the Prince of Peace?
The prophet Isaiah spoke it forth long ago saying, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9: 6)
Wholeness and well-being are the attributes present that indicate peace.
When Jesus promises peace He says, “I will make peace your governor and righteousness your ruler.” (Isaiah 60: 17)
But in His graciousness and love this peace doesn’t stop there. He promised, “Peace, I leave with you; My peace I give to you.” (John 14: 27)
The final release is this: “May the Lord of Peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way.” (2 Thessalonians 3: 16)
The Lord was so intent on revealing His peace that He sent a great company of angels to shepherds in the field when Jesus was born, saying, “Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace to men whom His favor rests.” (Luke 2: 4)
Can you imagine? The heavens were opened and the shepherds saw the angelic hosts giving glory to God.
Take note, however, that assured peace is granted to those whom God’s favor rests.
Only those He knows and is pleased with are granted favor and peace. God’s lasting peace is so much deeper than just having “peace of mind” in a situation.
Peace with God is received by faith in Jesus Christ.
Jesus not only promised to give peace, but leave peace, and be peace.
