Oh, the joy of being surrounded by rest! In our busy lives, and the obstacles that we encounter, sometimes that place of rest seems so far off.
Be encouraged this day. There is a time, not too far off, of enjoying rest. A scripture that I found speaks of this. It says, “Now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster.” 1 Kings 5: 4
There are times that our battles just have to be won by God!
Prior to Solomon declaring this victory, his father, David, “Could not build a temple for the name of the Lord his God until the Lord put his enemies under his feet.” 1 Kings 5: 3
Although David was denied the privilege of building the temple, he did make plans and provisions for its construction.
KINGDOM POINT #1: The Father is making plans and provisions before we step into our rest or our completed assignment.
Our Father, our Daddy God, promises rest. Here’s His promise: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” Psalm 110:1
KINGDOM POINT #2: We can be at rest during the battle, as we give it to God. Notice the promise is for us to sit down, near the Father, until we see the enemy defeated.
When an enemy is put under the king’s feet, it’s an Old Testament figure for complete conquest.
“God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him (Jesus) to be head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him, who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 1: 22-23
KINGDOM POINT #3 As a believer in Jesus, we have complete conquest IN Him. He already won the battle on the cross, declaring “It is finished.” He won, so we win!
When everything that we deal with in this life is under the feet of the Lord, making our enemies our footstool, there is no room for the enemy to be given a “foothold!”
The definition of a “foothold” is a place where a person’s foot can be lodged to support securely, especially while climbing. A “foothold also is defined as, a secure position from which further progress can be made.
We have been instructed to “Not give the devil a foothold.” Ephesians 4: 27
In other words, do not give him a secure position of progress in our life. Our position, where the battle has been won, is IN Christ! Remember, the enemy wants us to feel defeated and not to climb or go higher in the things of God.
It now makes more sense to me why, in the book of Genesis 3: 15, “Jesus crushed the head of the snake (Satan) with the bottom of his heel.” The poison of the snake lies in its head.
Through Jesus’ perfect sacrifice on the cross, He crushed the head of Satan, removing his power over our lives!
Not giving the devil a “foothold” or “position” allows us to be surrounded by the complete rest of the Lord, bringing assurance of our position.
