Are We Embracing the New?

Any old earthly attachments seem to be less important in this new life in Christ.

Does everyone like embracing the new?  Not particularly.  Those of us who love the new, may wonder why others don’t.  Usually, folks who do not like change do not like the new. Maybe because it’s something different, like traveling on a new road, going a new way, and very unfamiliar, which can be scary.

Traveling on new roads requires a new direction.

When we give our lives to Christ, we become new, inside and out. Our life begins to turn in a new direction.

That new direction leads us closer to Jesus and allows Him to direct our steps.

New roads will be discovered, but we must turn in His direction.

We are told, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”  2 Corinthians 5: 17

In the last article we focused on the old, so today I want to focus on the new.  This scripture is perfect for defining the new.

Let’s look closer at this verse with the Amplified version, which says, “If anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].”  2 Corinthians 5: 17

That’s what I call being new–a spiritual awakening!    Any old earthly attachments seem to be less important in this new life in Christ.

The resurrection of Jesus gives us new life.

If we give our life to Jesus, we are now in Him. We are changed, and continually being changed.  That’s why we need Holy Spirit, who helps us daily.

A great Theologian once said, “This work of a new creation is even greater than God’s work in creating the world.”  (Spurgeon)

I wonder why?  It includes people who have their own wills.   That’s why it’s important to embrace this new in us. How can we do that?

We must both receive the gift of being a new creation and be challenged to live the life of a new creation.

All this is God’s work in us that we must submit to.  He wants to do something new in our lives which comes in the form of blessings.

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND? Let Him do a new work inside.  It opens the door for something new to be released in our lives.  His desire is this.  “Behold, I make all things new.”  Revelation 21: 5
