Are We Confident that God Surrounds Us?

There is a place in God where we cannot be moved.

Oh, how important it is to be under the shadow of God’s wings, hidden under His protective care.   “O God, how extravagant is your cherishing love! All mankind can find a hiding place under the shadow of your wings.”  (Psalm 36: 7)

It’s all about a hiding place, isn’t it?  There is a place in God where we cannot be moved.  There’s a trust that comes and makes us strong.

Those who trust in and rely on the Lord (with confident expectation) are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but remains forever.”  (Psalm 125: 1)

So let’s learn what this means.

Can we properly and fully trust God if we have trust in other things?

The answer would be no!

Mount Zion is the hill that Jerusalem was established on.

Mount Zion is secure, one commentary said this, “Our place in His love, His new life, and His gracious purpose lasts forever and cannot be moved.”

Here are some comparisons to help us determine where we are on the trust scale:

  • Are we uncertain and inconsistent like the winds?  Are we “Blown here and there by every wind of teaching?:  (Ephesians 4: 13)
  • Are we restless and unsettled like the waves of the ocean?  Are we like the “The tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud?”  (Isaiah 57: 18)
  • Are we like the sand that’s ever-shifting and unstable?  If we can’t put God’s words into practice we become, “Like a foolish man who built His house on sand.”  (Matthew 7: 26)

We have security from God that surrounds us.

Knowing this truth should bump up our confidence and trust level.  Here’s where I get this promise from:

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore.”  (Psalm 125: 2)

KINGDOM KEY:  Nothing can get to us unless it first passes through Him.

Mount Zion is not the highest peak in mountain ranges around Jerusalem.  The other ones are higher than Mount Zion, but the other mountains surround it.

Here’s what I learned, “The mountains around the Holy City, though they do not make a circular wall, are, ramparts and bulwarks, (defensive walls), making their city to be a prison; but yet He so orders the arrangements of His providence that His saints are as safe as if they dwell behind the strongest fortifications.” (Spurgeon)

Jesus is our fortifier.  Jesus is our strong tower that acts as a circumference around us.

Only our God can be a strong tower, that is upright and vertical and becomes a surrounding barrier.

We must learn to hide ourselves in Him.

Here is why:  “You are my hiding place, you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”   (Psalm 32: 7)

Stay hidden in His presence.
