And God Said…

We are marked, branded, set apart for Jesus.

Things happen when “God says!”  Did you ever realize that when God speaks He forms and fills?  Just look at the formation of what God created on the earth and then filled it.

  • God forms and fills.
  • There are days of forming and days of filling.
  • Both are part of His complete plan.

Early on in creation, we see, “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”  (Genesis 1: 2)

The Spirit of God hovers looking for a place to fill, to indwell.

And God said, “Let there be light and there was light…” (Genesis 1: 3)

The light He spoke into being filled the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night and let them serve as signs to mark seasons, days, and years.

  • God formed the sky and filled it with birds.
  • God formed the waters and filled them with fish.
  • God formed the land and filled it with fruit and seed-bearing trees.
  • God forms and fills with His word.
  • God also formulates days and seasons that He marks.

What season are you in?  If it’s a good season, we feel blessed.  If it’s a not-so-good season, we turn away from the Lord.  Embrace His markings upon our life and believe!

Kingdom-minded believers are marked for God’s purpose.

There was a man who needed to see the markings upon Jesus, to help him believe.  His name was Thomas who said, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands…”  (John 20: 25)

In Biblical days, a “mark” was considered a brand that identified a person.  The apostle Paul was beaten and flogged, so he did bear physical marks as a servant of Jesus. What about us in the here and now?  We are marked, branded, set apart for Jesus.

The prophet Isaiah said it this way, “One will say, I belong to the Lord, another will call himself the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, “The Lord’s,” and will take the name Israel.”  (Isaiah 44: 5)

This chapter is about the promised poured out Spirit; that God gave to His followers as He filled us! One commentary put it this way:   “An effect of the poured-out Spirit is that He identifies us as belonging to the Lord. When the Holy Spirit is poured out on us, we know we belong to the Lord, and we aren’t afraid to say it. The Holy Spirit is an identifying seal upon the believer.”  David Guzik

Charles Spurgeon says this,” Another shall subscribe his hand unto the Lord.’ This alludes to the custom which still exists, but which was more common in those days, of a servant being marked or tattooed in the hand with his master’s name…. Paul alludes to this when he says, ‘Henceforth let no man trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus;’ as much as to say, ‘I am Christ’s: I have had his name branded upon me.’”

Kingdom-marked believers are branded and set apart for Jesus.

Whatever He has shall flow into our lives and out of our lives.  Why?  Everything He forms He fills.  The indwelling life of Jesus is in us, not only to fill, (indwell) but to fulfill our destiny in Him. Our life is no longer our own, we’ve been bought with a price.

I looked back on the passage in Genesis and I counted seven, “And God said,” phrases. Mankind was told to FILL the earth and subdue it.

For those who may be wondering if their destiny in God will be completed, I exhort you by saying, “If God said it, He will fulfill it.”

  • Does He promise and not fulfill?  (Numbers 23: 9)
  • “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.”  (Psalm 138: 8)

In the Old Testament, everything the prophets said about the coming Messiah, Jesus, was fulfilled.

Everything God said about your future, shall come to pass.

Yes, there have been decrees spoken over us, from heaven, that God issued!

Our life with Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit, can never be empty!  Remember, the earth WAS formless and empty…

KINGDOM PRINCIPLE:  His Words are not empty words, they are promises that are to be fully fulfilled, even if it doesn’t look like we thought they would look.  He wears the names, Faithful and True.
