A Secret Worth Telling

Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT –

“The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.”

Pssst! God’s got a secret! And when you know it, you will be accountable to live it out. Wanna know the secret now?

Growing up, I could always tell when someone had a secret. It was usually made very obvious. Hands covering mouths and voices in a hushed tone. Not so secretive, ironically. And when the secret was about you, all eyes would gaze at you with a less-than-complimentary stare. No, we don’t like to be the object of secrets.

But there is something about that hidden knowledge that is delicious to our flesh—especially if the spotlight is not on us. Bad news, though—gossip and secrets can do some damage. “A fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul. A gossip’s words are like choice morsels, and they sink into the inmost being” (Proverbs 18:7-8 BSB).

Those people who are talking about you? They will reap what they sow and their secrets are not worth repeating.

But there is a secret that is worth telling and retelling—the incredible news of Christ coming to save all mankind! Not all secrets were meant to be kept. Go, tell everyone you know so they might understand and know God, too, and His free salvation to all who believe! Our God has come to earth to show Himself to us:

  • John 1:10-14, 16-18 NLT, “He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.”

And we are accountable to what God has revealed to us!!! We understand and know the grace of God because of God’s incredible mercy. We live in a time when the message of God’s salvation has been revealed! We need to live up to what we know so others around us can know Him, too, (Philippians 3:16 NIV: “Only let us live up to what we have already attained.”) and God can receive all the glory! In fact, this is our very purpose—what we are made for.

Life is like a play and we don’t know the subplots. We are under attack daily because we know and believe the secret. Don’t give in to the struggle! Don’t stop living up to what God has revealed. He is our joy and our life. Live for Him all year through! God loves you!
