A Prayer to Love My Brothers and Sisters in Christ

Believers today talk about love, sing about love, and study about love. These expressions are great, but we must be reminded that God calls us to express love. The expressions of love aren’t theoretical, mystical, or sentimental; they’re relational. This relational love isn’t targeted toward generic humanity, but we’re given a priority of love.

We’re to love our fellow disciples with greater focus and determination than the strangers and outsiders that surround us (Gal. 6:10). Below is a prayer based on 1 John 2:7-11. Pray this prayer. Read this passage. Reflect on it. Let it settle into your heart and mind. Then resolve to love the brethren.

If this prayer ministered to you, then would you like it, share it and comment on it? Help spread the word.

PRAYER

Father, the command to love my brothers and sisters in Christ isn’t going anywhere. It’s been foundational from the beginning. So fill me with love for my siblings in Christ. By Your grace, I’ll excel in loving the brethren. I reject hatred and disdain for others. I cast down disillusionment with the Church. May these sins never have a place in my heart. Cleanse my heart of all bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, distrust and malice. May the light of love illuminate my path and guide my actions. I pray this in Jesus’s name, the One that loved perfectly.

1 JOHN 2:7-11, NIV

Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

CRAZY KINGDOM

Listen to what Philip Cameron said about Crazy Kingdom.

“The kingdom of God is the rulership and government of God over our lives. If we seek first the kingdom of God, Jesus promises not only heaven but a life of abundance now. Cameron King has written an outstanding book on how to apply the principles that Jesus teaches into our daily living. Crazy Kingdom is written in a down-to-earth, easy- to-understand manner intertwined with powerful illustrations which penetrate the reader. Each chapter is a brilliant and witty presentation of some major principles Jesus teaches, and all end with practical applications to an abundant-life mindset, as opposed to the survivor mentality, that is prevalent in our society. We are challenged to put into practice these principles in specific areas of our lives such as “Business,” “Family,” “Creativity,” “Solutions,” “Prayer,” “Health,” and “Financial.” This is one of the best books out there on the subject of the kingdom of God. I highly endorse and encourage everyone to read and apply it!!”

Philip Cameron is an internationally known speaker. He appears regularly on national television programs. Philip is the author of several books; one, It’s Time for Household Salvation, has 300,000 copies in print. He has been married for over forty years to his wife, Chrissie. He has four married children and six grandkids.
