A Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Incarnation

We’re also celebrating that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is a real story. It’s not some fairytale that our lives revolve around. It’s history.

(Based on 1 John 1:1-4)

Today, we’re taking a break from praying our way through the Minor Prophets. We’re going to jump into the New Testament and pray our way through 1 John. I would love for you to join us on this journey. If you haven’t been following our prayer journey, I would love for you to do so. Now, let’s talk about 1 John 1:1-4.

We usually ponder the incarnation at Christmastime, but the fact that Jesus came to Earth and became a man means that He had a real body, and this should be celebrated all year. Unfortunately, there have been heretical and false teachings that have occurred over the last couple of millennia disputing the fact that Jesus had a real body, but we’re not concerned with that today.

Today, we’re celebrating that Jesus became a man. He feels our pain and knows our struggle. We’re also celebrating that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is a real story. It’s not some fairytale that our lives revolve around. It’s history. It’s factual. It’s truth and reality for which we’re going to offer a prayer of thanksgiving to God. Below, you will find a prayer constructed from 1 John 1:1-4 followed by that passage. I would encourage you to read them both. Then you can pass them on to a friend. Share them on Facebook or leave a comment on the website. All of these things help spread the Word.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for coming physically to us. You became human. A real human with a real body. Who can imagine that God, the truth of eternal life, became man? The people who witnessed Your life saw You with their physical eyes. They felt You with their actual hands. You weren’t a vision or a dream but the real God that came to bring joy and life to us. Thank You, Jesus!

1 John 1:1-4, NIV

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.  We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.
