A Prayer for Victory Over Worldliness

We’re in the world but not of the world. The problem is when the desire of the world lives in us. But the power of the Holy Spirit can change our desires.

We’re in the world but not of the world. The problem is when the desire of the world lives in us. John spelled out the power of the world in this passage, but the power of the Holy Spirit can change our desires and deliver us from temptation. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit right now to work His power within us by praying the prayer and meditating on the Scripture below.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, break the love of the world in me by increasing the love of the Father within me. Break the power of the lust of the eyes in my life. I don’t want to be captivated by what I see. Give me self-control over the desires of my body and its sinful urges. Help me overcome the lure of position and power. Remove the desire for even a tiny taste of worldliness within me. Do this in Jesus’s name, my Sanctifier.

1 JOHN 2:15-17, NIV

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
