Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; praise Him, O you servants of the Lord! Psalm 135:1

Once in a while, people will give an expression of approval or admiration for someone else who has done something good; they give someone some praise. Some will give recommendations to a manager to hire someone or give someone a specific new position in a company. This often occurs only when someone has done something extraordinarily well or beneficial to many others. Most people do not receive praise and only a few give it out to others who deserve some praise.

The psalmist calls for the servants of the Lord to praise the Lord. He repeats it several times in this one verse to praise the Lord.

People often do not recognize when someone has done something good unless it is way above the ordinary. Things that occur or are done on a regular daily basis are expected and no praise is expected, though nearly everyone wants to be praised for what they have done, especially if they have gone above and beyond the expected.

Believers have often seen God’s hand at work so much that they tend to see it as ordinary. They forget the amount of sin that God removed from them when they first believed. Forgotten are the little ways in which God has helped the believer behind the scenes through each day. The initial wonder of God has disappeared.

Instead of letting those wonders go, the believer needs to stand in awe of what God has done, is doing, and will do. When the believer sees those “little” things God is doing each and every day, one cannot help but give God praise for who He is and what He has done and what He is doing.

The believer, the servant of God, will praise the Lord!

When you look back on your life, think about how much God has done in your life each and every day. Think about how God has given you His presence and comfort in times of need and turmoil. Think about how great His love is for you that He should die a painful death on the cross in your place.

Every breath you take and every step you make is all because of what God has done for you. Give God all the praise due His name. Praise the Lord!

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will recognize what God has done for you; that you will give God praise for who He is and what He has done; and that you will praise the Lord day and night.
