5 Passages of Praise from Revelation to Use in Your Prayer Life

I like to think of my time of praise here on earth as my “dress rehearsal.”

Posted on

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to review some great books on heaven for an article I wrote. All of that got me thinking about the joy we will experience in heaven. At times it’s difficult to wrap our minds around the sheer pleasure of heaven. One way to enjoy a small bit of that now and get ready for then is by intentionally praising God.

I like to think of my time of praise here on earth as my “dress rehearsal.” It helps me to remember that all of heaven resounds with praise and adoration to the Holy One. One of the practices I have used in recent years during my worship time is to use some of the prayers of praise found in the book of Revelation. As we echo the words of the Apostle John, we can taste a tiny bit of heaven.

Here are some passages that I have found particularly helpful. I recommend incorporating them into your regular prayers. When we echo God’s Word, God promises that His Word will not return void but will accomplish all that it is intended to accomplish. One of the benefits of praying these passages is not only are they beautiful, but they are powerful declarations of God’s goodness. As you use them in your prayer time, the Holy Spirit will strengthen your faith and reassure you both of the beauty of heaven and the majesty of God’s nature.

5 Passages of Praise from Revelation to Use in Your Prayer Life

Revelation 4:8b, 11

Holy, holy, holy, is that Lord God Almighty, who was and is, and is to come.”

“You are worthy, our lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

Lord God Almighty, I praise You that You were, You are, and You will be for all eternity. You alone are worthy of all my praise. Help me this day to glorify and honor You not only with my words, but also with my life.

Revelation 5:9-10, 12-14

You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God form every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise.”

“To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power for ever and ever.”

Oh, Lord Jesus, I worship You. You are both the Lion of Judah and the Lamb of God. You alone are worthy to receive power, glory, wisdom, honor, and strength. Show me this day how to keep my eyes focused on You.

Revelation 7:10, 12

“Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne and to the Lamb.”

Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen.”

Oh Lord God, all of heaven echoes with Your praise. Help me this day to live a life that brings praise and honor to your name.

Revelation 11:16-17

“We give thanks to you, Lord God almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.”

Thank You, Lord, that I don’t have to fear the future. You, almighty God, will reign for all eternity in perfect goodness and justice. When anxiety threatens today, help me to rest in Your goodness.

Revelation 15:3-4

“Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the ages. Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will some and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

Lord, I praise You that although the nations are at war today, someday, people from every nation, tribe, and tongue will gather to sing praises around Your throne. Every knee will eventually bow before the King of Kings and the Lord of lords. Fill me with Your peace today as I seek to live a life of worship. I pray You will be honored in every decision I make today.
